Twin moment

First "Twin" moment!!! Normally, we put the boys down in their crib side by side. Lately, they have been waking each other up with spit up and head knocking. So, last night, we put them to bed feet t0 feet. To our astonishment this morning, we went in to their room and found them head to head! Mind you, they are completely swaddled. They have no way of using their hands or legs to help them move, but somehow, someway, they figured out how to scoot down so that they were back to their normal sleeping position. Further, they were sucking on each other's faces like each was the other's bottle! It was so cute. When I peeked my face over the top of the side of the crib, both boys let out audible laughs and cracked huge grins. It was a great morning.

SLEEP!

Oh my gosh, the boys are sleeping through the night! Fantastically ridiculous. For the past 10 days or so, my wife and I have been getting 6-7 hour blocks of sleep and I can't think of any better way to spend an evening. Ever.

Now, the boys wake up around 6:45 and are all smiles. They laugh, giggle, are ticklish and even enjoy bath time now. So life is looking up.

Twin A's new favorite thing is if I blow air into his face. He takes a deep (reflex induced) breath and then cracks up laughing. Twin B is in love with himself. No, really. He looks into a toy mirror we have and talks up a storm. Take it away and he looks stunned. Put it back and he squirms with all kinds of delight and excitement.

We continue to battle the spit-up fairy (which always seems to appear immediately after the putting on of a new outfit) and the boys still do not have neck control. Twin B is getting better at being able to hold his head up for small bits of time, and he even started to grab at things yesterday with his hands! Twin A is content with jabbering up a storm.

It is interesting in terms of their different levels/stages of development. They are starting to demonstrate their differences in personality (Twin A - goofy, Twin B - serious) and how they approach things differently. Twin A doesn't really care about what is around him whereas Twin B is super aware of everything in his immediate vicinity. The best part? All kinds of smiles now. All kinds.

smiles?

Ok, so we are nearing the 2 month mark and we think we have seen a few smiles on the boys. Not sure. The reason that we are not sure is that they also have been very, very, very gassy lately and a smile usually precedes some butt trumpet action.

We have gone a few nights with 4-5 hour blocks of sleep which have been AMAZING. Twin A has shown himself now to be generally more easy going. This is odd because everyone has told us that Twin B is generally the more chill dude. I guess time will tell.

It also came to my attention that people might be wondering why I refer to them as "Twin A" and "Twin B" when they have names? The thought is that the less information I put out on the interweb about my boys the better. I am sure that when they are 10 or 15 that someone would be able to google (or use whatever search vehicle is en vogue) them and come up with embarrassing stories about them. Also, there are a lot of weird peeps on the blogosphere, so I thought it best to use generic, yet descriptive terms for the boys so that their identity and security is preserved.

Now, back to the boys -

Twin A and I had our first diaper change showdown. The other day I was changing him and he sounded the butt trumpet mid-change. No biggie, just a little wetness after I already cleaned him up so I grabbed another wipe and cleaned him again. He decided to rinse and repeat. So I returned the favor, only this time, he nailed his diaper so I had to get a new one. As I am turning around to fetch and clean diaper, I hear this inhuman-like noise emanating from his behind. I turn around, and I kid you not, things seemed to be in slow motion, I see this liquid shooting from his butt, more like blasting from his butt, and splattering against the wall. Poo everywhere. Now what? I tried to clean it up as quickly as I could but before I could solve that problem he started to pee everywhere. Like a firehouse out of control, Twin A was nailing everything. Poo, pee...what else could there be? Decidedly not finished, Twin A next projectiled spit up all over his urine-soaked clothes. Then he smiled. Score one for the little dude.
